Olivia Knapp’s “Prehensilities” at Hellion Gallery.

Opening on Thursday, August 6th, 2015 at Hellion Gallery in Portland, Oregon is artist Olivia Knapp’s solo show “Prehensilities.”  Though Knapp’s work resembles engraving, they are impressively hand drawn in ink to explore the relations between desire, reason and circumstance.  Recurring human anatomical references are re-occurring characters to Knapp to push forward a surreal, outer-body storyline.  She explains, “When our internal voices and the conditions of our life aren’t aligned, so often, the default emotion is shame.  I want to create a more honest view of ourselves; one that embraces these complexities.”

Please continue below to see more of Knapp’s work for “Prehensilities.”
