Artists have a variety of methods to make their mark. Every Friday we will share a photograph of an #ArtistInAction.
Lucio Fontana’s famous Concetto Spaziale (‘Spatial Concept’) and Tagli (‘Cuts’) simultaneously contain the idea of infinity and emptiness through a series of incisions created by premeditated and yet expressionist gestures. An unsettling tension moves from the slashed canvas to the void and the three dimensional space behind it. Fontana questions the performative act of making an artwork by placing a scar on an unpainted or monochrome surface.
